A wedding in a Cistercian abbey in Vendée

Abbaye Sainte-Marie du Gué de Trizay hosts weddings at 100 Trizay, Bournezeau, in the Saint-Vincent-Puymaufrais area. Founded in the 12th century and consecrated on 15 August 1145, it combines a former abbey church, cloister courtyard and historic house. Its remains have been protected as historic monuments since 10 April 1989. This is the Vendée venue, distinct from the similarly named priory in Charente-Maritime.

Spaces and capacities, without adding them together

Nef 160 m², up to 120 seated guests; Logis room 60 m², 15–20 meeting participants, 40 theatre or dining, 60 standing. Former cloister courtyard 900 m²; over 3 hectares of grounds beside the Lay. The abbey church choir is offered for symbolic ceremonies. Capacities are not additive and do not establish outdoor wedding capacity above the official 120-guest limit.

Exclusive hire from Friday to Sunday

The wedding offer provides access from Friday at 2pm to Sunday at 6pm, allowing preparation, celebration and the following day on site. The Nef hosts dinner and the party, the choir a symbolic ceremony, and the courtyard the drinks reception. Grounds extend beside the Lay. Specify the exact package areas in the contract; room capacities are not additive and suitable wet-weather arrangements for each stage should be agreed during a visit.

On-site cottage and bedrooms

Renovated holiday cottage open since August 2023, rated as three-star furnished tourist accommodation, sleeping 10 in three bedrooms. Published details: Gué room 6 sleeping places/46 m², Jardins room 2/23 m², Cloître room 2/19 m², each with separate bathroom and toilet facilities. Conflicting 140/200 m² total-area figures are not adopted. Accommodation is advertised within the full exclusive-hire package; specify it in the quotation. Nearby independently operated guest rooms are not included.

Catering, drinks and services

Free choice of outside caterer; a partner list and tailored turnkey organisation are available by quotation. A catering preparation area/kitchen is mentioned, but no current technical inventory is confirmed. Agree menus, diets, allergens, children’s meals, staff, tableware, linen, cake and brunch service separately. The corporate study-day package with lunch is not a wedding-meal package. The wedding information consulted on 15 October 2026 advertises bringing alcohol without corkage; confirm the drinks covered and service arrangements in the contract. Water included in the corporate study-day package does not establish inclusion for a wedding.

Wedding budget and cleaning charges

Figures consulted on 15 October 2026; confirm the applicable year: full exclusive hire with accommodation from €4,200 including tax; Nef alone €2,800 including tax; intimate reception for up to 40 people €2,300 including tax, with areas/duration to confirm. Full cleaning is offered at €500 including tax, or separately: Nef/cloister/choir €250, catering area/kitchen €100, toilets €50, cottage €100 including tax. A conflicting older €3,650 FAQ answer is not treated as the current price. None of these figures is a per-person meal price.

Equipment and other events

The venue also hosts seminars, meetings, training and private receptions. The official Logis meeting offer lists Wi-Fi, projector, screen, sound system, microphone and two flipcharts; the Nef additionally advertises a stage up to 20 m² alongside audiovisual equipment. The Nef is offered to corporate clients from April to October, the Logis all year. This does not automatically establish identical wedding inclusions, season or heating. High tables and wooden games can be requested; agree quantities and any charges.

Separate corporate packages

Corporate offers separate from wedding hire: equipped Logis room from €350 excluding tax per day; study day from €57 excluding tax per person, with a €570 excluding-tax daily minimum. The study day includes a private equipped room, arrival coffee and pastries, breaks, a three-course lunch and still/sparkling water. Corporate rates consulted on 15 October 2026; confirm the applicable year, VAT, participant count and services. These excluding-tax prices do not replace the including-tax wedding quotation and do not establish that the same equipment or meals are included in exclusive weekend hire.

Access, visits and preparing the contract

100 Trizay, 85480 Bournezeau, in the Saint-Vincent-Puymaufrais area. The map marks the former abbey church building within the estate, not the village centre. Free on-site parking; access from the A83 via Bournezeau, with the interchange listed as 7 km away. The ground-level Nef is advertised as wheelchair accessible; check toilets, outdoor routes and cottage access before booking. Advance payment, damage deposit, balance, insurance, cancellation, overtime, furniture and children’s charges are not published precisely enough: agree them in the quotation and contract.
