Château de Montigny-sur-Aube

A wedding in the gardens of a Burgundy château

Château de Montigny-sur-Aube offers its spaces for weddings and receptions at 2 rue de l’Église in Côte-d’Or, within the Parc national de Forêts. The estate combines a historic château, a Renaissance chapel, water-filled moats, an orangery and productive kitchen gardens. The grounds are advertised as 4.5 hectares. Hire mainly concerns outdoor spaces: the château’s private drawing rooms are not an available wedding dining room. The setting suits a drinks reception, standing reception or garden event, with the precise boundaries defined in the contract. Seminars, association meetings, family events and product launches are also offered.

Spaces and capacities: prioritise the official figure

Four areas are presented: the north grounds between chapel and moats; the Orangery with its terrace and warming room; the kitchen gardens; and the grounds facing the entrance with the Harry Truman memorial area. Espalier cultivation has been recognised as intangible cultural heritage in France since 2023. The official private-hire page advertises 10 to 250 people outdoors, depending on the event. A commercial presentation still mentions 500 in its narrative, but its summary also limits attendance to 250: do not treat 500 as an approved capacity. No exact floor area or seated capacity for the Orangery or chapel was published on the consulted pages. Capacities of separate spaces are not added together. The chapel is a heritage feature, not evidence that a religious ceremony is authorised.

Organisation, weather and equipment

The venue mentions the possibility of erecting tents for a buffet or wet weather, to be organised with suppliers and subject to approval. This is neither an included marquee nor guaranteed covered backup for 250 guests. The website also suggests a meal or party in the village function hall, advertised for 240 diners: that separate building is not a château room and is not automatically included in its hire. Confirm separate contracts, travel and availability. Furniture, crockery, table linen, event lighting, sound equipment, a screen, DJ, dance floor, air conditioning, security and evacuation plans are not documented as an included package. A technical visit should establish setup, power, toilets, caterer access and protection of the gardens and moats.

Hire prices and payment conditions

Official event hire requires an enquiry. A commercial wedding presentation advertises €1,500 per day for private hire for up to 50 people, then €20 per additional person up to 250, with an overall range of €1,500 to €5,500. The tariff year, taxes and exact inclusions are unspecified in that publication: these are indicative amounts to reconfirm in a dated quotation, not meal or accommodation prices. No contractual guest minimum is established by the variation between “2” and “10” across presentations. Bank transfer, card, cheque and cash are advertised commercially. A wedding advance payment, security deposit, instalment schedule and event cancellation charges are not published. Official online booking terms state that the selected tariff conditions and booking confirmation take precedence; they describe non-refundable prepayments depending on the selected offer. Obtain the terms specific to your private hire without automatically applying those for a visit or bedroom.

Food and drinks: separate services

The À la Table des Jardiniers farm restaurant offers a Coffret Fraîcheur meal made with organic produce from the kitchen gardens. Priced at €33 per person in the offer consulted on 15 October 2026, it contains three savoury preparations including one hot dish, dessert, a 50 g organic three-grain bread roll and spring water. A vegetarian version is available. It can be eaten on the terrace or in the Orangery, or taken away; booking is recommended. This visitor meal is not advertised as a €33 wedding menu. Dinner by reservation is advertised for overnight guests. Confirm wedding caterer choice or exclusivity, kitchen access, diets and allergens, children’s meals, brunch, wines, quantities, service and corkage: ambiguous commercial wording about “fixed/unlimited” drinks does not establish a package.

Yellow and Blue rooms, with separate supplements

The officially linked accommodation website presents two rooms: Chambre jaune and Chambre bleue, each for two people with a 160 × 200 cm double bed, walk-in shower and private toilet. Both are on the first floor without a lift. Each is advertised from €225 per night; check availability, taxes and the selected tariff terms. Continental breakfast and an audio-guided visit of the grounds are complimentary; linen, high-speed Wi-Fi, hairdryer, heated towel rail and shared garden are advertised. Guests in Chambre jaune may request an adjoining room for an additional €125 per night, with a 90 × 200 cm single bed and 120 × 180 cm four-poster bed, sharing the bathroom. Do not turn that option into two guaranteed adult beds without agreement. Check-in is 16:00 and checkout 10:00; rooms and château interiors are non-smoking, and the accommodation offer does not accept pets. Access, timings and planning

The entrance is at 2 rue de l’Église, opposite the church square; ring the “Visiteurs” intercom. Official building coordinates are 47.95278065, 4.77797617401597. Parking is possible on the village square; coach parking is also advertised without a guaranteed space count. Contact the venue for reduced-mobility access instructions; an accessibility service does not remove the lack of a lift to the bedrooms. From the A5, use exit 23 and follow signs; Mobigo route LR 128 Châtillon-sur-Seine–Gevrolles serves Montigny-sur-Aube. An event end time of 04:00 is advertised commercially, to be confirmed in the contract alongside noise and dismantling rules. Autumn sightseeing opening, 2 to 25 October 2026, Friday to Sunday from 12:00 to 17:00, is not the private-hire timetable. Summer visits, with tickets at €10 per adult, €5 for ages 12–17 and free for under-12s, and activities advertised at €8, €48, €49 or €125 for two, are separate offers: none of those prices is used as a wedding tariff.
