The Les Pénitents Noirs contemporary art centre has occupied the chapel of the same name since 2008, above Aubagne’s old town in the Aires Saint-Michel district. This historic building hosts a programme dedicated to contemporary creation, including exhibitions, installations and educational interpretation organised by the City of Aubagne.
The team offers guided visits, visual arts workshops for schoolchildren and adults, and opportunities to meet and discuss the works. The centre also organises activities across artistic disciplines, including concerts, performances, dance and encounters. Exhibitions and associated events change with the programme. The collective exhibition Entre-deux mondes brings together Céline Marin and Quentin Spohn from 20 June to 17 October 2026. An architectural heritage visit is scheduled for 17 October. Groups can contact the centre directly to arrange a discovery programme suited to their participants, interests and accessibility requirements.
Admission to the art centre is free. Published opening hours are Tuesday to Friday from 2 pm to 6 pm, and Saturday from 10 am to noon and 2 pm to 6 pm. Visitors should check these hours and the events calendar when planning a particular exhibition or activity. The venue is suitable for cultural encounters, exhibitions and artistic visits within its programme. Arrangements for any specific proposed event should be established with the team responsible for the centre.
Its Tourisme et Handicap certification was renewed in 2026. Accessibility provisions include a side entrance, an induction loop at reception and interpretation materials in braille, tactile formats, easy-to-read text and formats suited to visitors with dyslexia. Bus route 2 serves the nearby Les Pénitents stop. An accessible parking space is provided in the car park opposite, and vehicle access to the forecourt can be arranged with the team.
