A wedding in a seventeenth-century château
Château de Vaugrigneuse hosts private weddings in the upper Chevreuse valley in Essonne. The sixteen-hectare estate combines a seventeenth-century château, gardens, woods and a large pond. The reception spaces mix traditional woodwork with contemporary furniture, creating the atmosphere of a family house. The venue offers private use of the property and wedding formats that can span welcome drinks, dinner and, where arranged, brunch on the following morning.
Waterside pavilion, historical salons and courtyard
The Pavilion by the Pond is advertised for up to 160 guests at a seated dinner, according to the venue’s official website. The 600 m² main courtyard can accommodate up to 300 guests for a standing drinks reception and can be used for a symbolic wedding ceremony. The Orangerie may serve as an indoor alternative for a ceremony or welcome drinks. Historical rooms including the Grand Salon, Guards’ Room and Library suit smaller gatherings. The different capacities must not be added together to calculate the maximum number of dinner guests.
Ceremonies and guest experience
Depending on the weather and services booked, couples can arrange a symbolic ceremony beside the fountain or near the edge of the pond. Lawns offer space for a summer reception, and the estate advertises a private car park for around 100 vehicles. The team presents catering and planning support, with a possible next-day brunch. Essonne Tourisme also mentions woodland lodges: approximately fifteen lodges providing up to 45 sleeping places. Availability and current prices need to be reconfirmed for the intended date.
Quotations and safety considerations
The château is located at 11 rue Héroard in Vaugrigneuse. Before booking, confirm which areas are included, the floor plan, conditions for outside suppliers, music finishing hours, wheelchair access, safe routes near the pond and the availability of guest accommodation. Every reception and ceremony requires an itemised quotation, and prices vary according to the season and the arrangements chosen.
