Weddings at Schloss Freudenfels

Schloss Freudenfels stands above Eschenz in the Swiss canton of Thurgau and operates as an exclusive event hotel for weddings, seminars and other events. The venue expressly offers both intimate weddings and larger celebrations. The ceremony, drinks reception, dinner, overnight stay and breakfast can all be planned at the same property. Historic castle rooms, a chapel, gardens and terraces are combined with guest accommodation in the Schüür and Wyberhuus buildings.

For weddings, the official offer states capacities of up to 70 people indoors and up to 120 outdoors. These figures must not be added together: the actual maximum depends on the chosen room, layout, weather and event programme. The current official wedding dossier provides the more detailed space capacities and financial terms set out below.

Ceremony and drinks reception

A symbolic ceremony can be held in the rose garden, on the castle terrace or indoors. The dossier lists ceremony capacities of 70 in the rose garden, 120 on the castle terrace, 70 in the Plenarsaal and 120 in the Schüürhalle. The historic castle chapel seats 30. The ceremony package costs CHF 1,200 and includes venue hire, chairs without covers, standing tables, a gift table and a power cable. Any additional infrastructure is hired externally as required.

The published setup charge for a drinks reception is CHF 550, including eight standing tables and one hour of service. Additional service is CHF 60 per hour. This setup charge is waived when the wedding celebration subsequently takes place at Freudenfels. The dossier also gives guide prices including a surprise drinks reception from CHF 29 per person and individual canapés at approximately CHF 3 to CHF 12.50 each. The final offer depends on the selection, quantities and schedule.

Reception rooms

The Aula and Foyer together can host a celebration for up to 70 people. Additional tables are hired for more than 64 guests, and a minimum spend of CHF 14,000 applies. The Plenarsaal accommodates up to 30 people and costs CHF 550 to hire; the Festsaal accommodates up to 15 and costs CHF 450. The castle terrace can host a celebration for up to 70 people and carries a minimum spend of CHF 14,500. For drinks receptions and other layouts, the same terrace can accommodate up to 120.

Later in the evening, the fireplace room and library can become a retreat with a self-service bar for up to 60 people. Hire costs CHF 250 excluding drinks. The same space can be used free of charge as a getting-ready room on the wedding day. After midnight, each started hour costs CHF 250; celebrations may generally continue until 3 a.m. Outdoor quiet hours begin at 10 p.m., and indoor sound must be reduced after 1 a.m.

Food, drinks and wedding cake

The kitchen works with seasonal, regional produce, and the dossier states that meat and fish are sourced from Switzerland. Banquet offers normally apply from 20 people. Smaller groups have a minimum spend of CHF 2,000; hotel rooms do not count towards it. Published guide prices are approximately CHF 29.50 to CHF 62 for main courses, CHF 12 to CHF 29 for desserts and CHF 12 to CHF 16 for children’s menus. Late-night food is approximately CHF 6.50 to CHF 20. The chosen menu, allergies, vegetarian requirements and other dietary needs must be agreed during the individual menu consultation.

For an externally supplied wedding cake, service and tableware cost CHF 7.50 per person unless the cake forms part of the dessert buffet. Corkage is CHF 35 per 75 cl bottle of wine or sparkling wine and CHF 85 per 75 cl bottle of spirits. A mobile bar with a member of staff costs CHF 300, excluding drinks.

Equipment and decoration

A projector and screen can be provided free of charge with advance notice. A sound system with microphone costs CHF 300, and a photo booth costs CHF 690. Chair covers and LED lights are listed at CHF 15 each. Additional decoration work by venue staff costs CHF 60 per person per hour. Confetti requires prior approval and any resulting cleaning is charged. Fresh rose petals may be used outdoors only; artificial rose petals indoors only.

Accommodation on the estate

There are 25 guest rooms: 20 doubles in the Schüür, plus four singles and one double in the Wyberhuus. A double room costs CHF 240 per night including breakfast, and a single costs CHF 180. Tourist tax is CHF 3.50 per person. Additional double occupancy costs CHF 35. A cot costs CHF 45; children up to three sharing their parents’ bed stay free, while older children are CHF 25. An extra bed with breakfast is CHF 75. A dog, with bowl and bed, is CHF 35. Breakfast for a non-resident guest costs CHF 35. The couple receives one complimentary overnight stay.

Accommodation is offered for groups of at least ten people. Breakfast and check-out are both scheduled until 11 a.m. The final number of rooms must be confirmed at least 14 days before the event.

Access and parking

The official address is Schlossweg, 8264 Eschenz, Switzerland. The estate provides 25 free parking spaces. Additional parking can be arranged for CHF 150, and the estimated vehicle count is required 21 days before the event. Two electric-vehicle charging points are available, with electricity billed by consumption. The reviewed material does not fully specify step-free routes, lifts, accessible toilets or adapted rooms; these must therefore be confirmed directly before booking.

Contract, payment and cancellation

All prices in the wedding dossier include 8.1% VAT. Slight price adjustments are reserved for bookings made in the previous year. The definitive guest count is due 28 days before the celebration; the count confirmed 48 hours before the event is the billing basis. A deposit may be calculated as menu price multiplied by guest count, but its precise amount and due date belong in the individual quotation.

Cancellation after signing costs 10% of all reserved services. The charge rises to 25% eight months before the event, 50% three months before, 80% between 29 and 14 days before, and 100% within 14 days. No cancellation charge applies if events are prohibited throughout the canton or nationwide; private reasons for cancellation remain subject to the schedule. Smoking and e-cigarettes are prohibited indoors, with a CHF 500 penalty. Heavy soiling may also be charged at CHF 500.
