An abbey for business events
Montmajour Abbey offers spaces for business receptions within a historic monastic complex overlooking the plain of Arles. Located on the road to Fontvieille, the monument combines stone architecture, a cloister and substantial interior volumes. The official Centre des monuments nationaux programme includes drinks receptions, seminars, conferences, product launches and private visits. Organisers work with the private-hire team to select the spaces and schedule suited to their event and to the monument’s operation.
Four spaces and their capacities
Four principal spaces are available. The abbey church covers 500 square metres and is advertised for conferences of up to 228 seated guests or standing events of 200. The official hire schedule also sets out a dinner arrangement for 230 guests at round tables of ten. The refectory covers 206 square metres and accommodates up to 191 seated guests. The 400-square-metre cloister is listed for conferences of 150, standing receptions of 200 or dinners of 100 in the published table arrangement. The 95-square-metre chapter house provides a conference layout for 98 or dinner seating for 50. These capacities describe different arrangements; the furniture plan and catering requirements determine the final layout.
Venue hire prices
Published evening-hire rates provide useful planning references. The cloister or refectory starts at €2,040 including tax for the 6–9 p.m. period, and €3,000 including tax for 6 p.m.–1 a.m. The abbey church starts at €2,640 and €3,600 including tax for the same periods. The chapter house is listed at €2,100 including tax for eight daytime hours. Daytime use of the other main spaces between October and March is priced on request. Set-up and dismantling must take place within the booked period, and two security staff are included in the published hire rates. Catering and any additional requirements are quoted separately.
Planning and access
Several practical features should be considered when planning an event in this historic setting. The spaces are not heated and outdoor lighting is limited. The chapter house is the only room identified for catering preparation, so its use for that purpose affects its availability to guests. The outdoor car park has no lighting or surveillance, and limited parking may make coach transfers appropriate. Visitors with reduced mobility can reach the terrace and cloister, while other parts of the site include uneven ground and numerous steps. A site visit with the team helps establish guest routes, technical needs and a suitable reception format.
