Private events in the Bossuit estate

Château de Bossuit, also known as Kasteel van Bossuit, is a historic estate in Avelgem, West Flanders, near Kortrijk and the French cities of Lille and Roubaix. Its current official English presentation offers full or partial private hire for receptions, seminars, filming and photography. Commercial event descriptions also advertise weddings, family celebrations, concerts, exhibitions and festivals. The event, areas hired and permitted programme must be agreed with the operator rather than inferred from the castle’s historic character.

Commercial operation is presented as the responsibility of the non-profit Les Amis du Château d’En Haut; proceeds contribute to conserving the estate. The château combines four corner towers, water around part of the building, period reception rooms and a landscaped park. It has seventeenth-century origins, was rebuilt in 1764 and transformed in 1867. Its current official description gives a 29-hectare estate; other commercial accounts give 26 or 28 hectares. These figures describe the landscape, not an area automatically available to every booking.

Castle rooms, orangery and outdoor areas

The official heritage page describes nearly 500 m² of living space in the main building, with Regency, Louis XV and Louis XVI influences and period decoration. Living area is not a certified event floor area. The official presentation identifies an orangery built around 1850 and announces a maximum of 250 people for seminars, bar mitzvahs and birthdays. It does not specify whether that maximum is seated, standing, with a dance floor or with catering. Obtain an event-specific layout and safety limit.

Published commercial room schedules give additional, differing configurations. One schedule names Hall, 70 m²; Grand Salon, 65 m²; Salle à manger, 60 m²; and Salon de Musique, 50 m². Each is advertised for 30–60 people seated or standing, with daylight. These limits must not be added to create a total capacity.

Another commercial schedule Area Standing / seated Meeting / conference Banquet / cocktail
Salle de réception 500 m² 150 / 150 100 / 150 50 / 150
Orangerie 250 m² 300 / 300 300 / 300 150 / 300

That schedule elsewhere describes a 300 m² orangery, while its table gives 250 m², and the current official maximum is 250 people rather than 300. It also displays a park row of 26,000 m² and 30,000 standing guests alongside an overall limit of 300. These inconsistent outdoor figures cannot establish an admissible guest count. The venue must confirm the room name, actual usable surface, number of guests and configuration in writing. No U-shape or classroom capacity is communicated.

Outdoor reception, ceremony position, tent location, wet-weather backup, lighting and installation arrangements need to be defined for your chosen date. A park, an orangery and a castle reception room are distinct spaces; hiring one does not automatically include the others.

Equipment, catering and practical arrangements

A commercial equipment list includes chairs, flipchart, projector, microphone, marquee, paper, pens and bottled water; availability and inclusion in a wedding hire require confirmation. Dancing is advertised as permitted. Wi-Fi, screen specifications, sound and lighting systems, tables, tableware, decoration, heating, air conditioning and DJ provision are not sufficiently detailed to treat them as included.

Commercial terms allow an outside caterer and indicate no on-site catering. A kitchen is advertised as an optional hire with cold room, refrigerator, freezer, oven and cooking hobs. Confirm its location, access, hygiene responsibilities, delivery arrangements and whether your caterer may use all equipment. There is no verified menu, drinks package, children’s price, corkage policy, cake rule, allergen procedure or dietary offer. Music, photographer, staff, security, cleaning and next-day brunch are not priced as automatic inclusions.

Hire prices: separate indications, not a current quote

No dated official tariff or contract is published on the consulted official pages. Commercial prices are undated and must be reconfirmed for the year, season, duration and configuration of your booking. One room schedule advertises Hall, Grand Salon and Salle à manger at €500 including tax each, and Salon de Musique at €300 including tax, with a maximum of sixty participants per space. It provides no complete duration or inclusion list.

A different schedule advertises empty-room hire from €1,000, a room range of €1,000–€2,000 excluding tax, full-estate hire at €1,700 plus €300 for the kitchen, a park from €500 and an orangery from €2,000. An unexplained “24 days” label is not treated as a verified rental period. A separate “from €20 per person” indication does not establish a wedding menu or an all-inclusive package. These amounts concern differing offers and tax bases; they are not combined into a fabricated package. Ask for the exact rooms, duration, VAT, equipment, staffing and optional services in a personalised quotation.

Bank transfer and cash are commercially advertised. Booking payment, deposit, payment schedule, cancellation, postponement, overtime, noise limits, event finish time, decoration access, key handover and insurance requirements are not communicated in sufficient detail. A signed offer must settle them before booking.

Accommodation, accessibility and arrival

Commercial information indicates no accommodation on the premises, with hotels and gîtes nearby. Room counts, beds, negotiated rates and transfers are not established. An advertised list of five hotels within a fifteen-minute walk has not been independently verified and should not be treated as a reserved accommodation service.

The commercial profile advertises accessibility, but the room schedule does not establish a step-free route to each space. Verify entrance, parking, toilets, thresholds and the particular rooms required by your guests. On-site parking is advertised; a claimed 1,000-space figure is not confirmed by an official plan. Commercial travel estimates of thirty minutes from Lille and twenty minutes from Tournai or Kortrijk remain indicative, subject to route and traffic.

The officially published event address is Doorniksesteenweg 581, 8583 Avelgem, Belgium. One commercial schedule uses 8580; use the operator’s 8583 address and confirm the access gate. The actual castle building is mapped at 50.74855, 3.40193; its heritage record also associates Bouvriestraat 3–5 with the wider estate. The building pin is not a promise of unrestricted public access. Arrange your visit first.

How are reviews verified?
  1. An account with a verified email address

The author posts from their wedding account using a confirmed email address. Their email address and contact details are never displayed in the review.

  2. A collaboration confirmed before the event

The client and the professional must have confirmed their collaboration on VENUIVO before the event date. Simply adding a favourite or requesting a quote is not enough.

  3. A review after the event

A review can only be published after the scheduled date for a confirmed collaboration that has not been cancelled. Only one review may be published per collaboration.

  4. The same rules for all reviews

Positive and negative reviews are assessed using the same criteria. Abusive or promotional content and content containing private contact details are rejected. Reviews can be reported, and the professional can respond.

These checks make reviews more reliable. They confirm the collaboration process on VENUIVO; the assessment remains the author’s own.
