A setting to celebrate your story

A medieval castle for a wedding in southern France
Château de Dio hosts weddings and receptions in a listed historic monument beneath the Escandorgue hills in France’s Hérault department. It overlooks the hamlet of Dio and red-rock hills in the new municipality of Lunas-les-Châteaux, formerly Dio-et-Valquières. The offer combines courtyards, former stables, vaulted cellars and accommodation in the castle and hamlet. The advertised reception spaces are within the monument; panoramic photographs show the setting without guaranteeing access to every visible building. Celebrations can take place over a weekend or on weekdays, with setup and exclusive-use periods defined by the selected package.
Spaces, layouts and capacities
The official site lists 125 seated dinner guests in the former Stables with a dance floor, and 150 on the lawns outside. The Cour d’Honneur is listed for 100 people and can host a ceremony; an overhead canopy can protect it from sun, wind and rain. The Basse Cour, in front of the façade, is described for 500 people, with a covered walkway and tiered seating for 160. The connected vaulted cellars accommodate 60–80 people depending on use, or a children’s area. These figures describe separate spaces and layouts and cannot be added together. Other presentations list 130 guests in the Stables, 120 for a ceremony and 250 for indoor cocktails. Confirm the exact plan, exits, dancing space and catering circulation before booking.
Floor areas and equipment to confirm
An event schedule gives indicative areas of 125 square metres for the Stables, 130 for the Cour d’Honneur, 900 for the Basse Cour, 60 for the cellars and 1,000 for an area called the Vineyard. These figures are not a technical survey: identify the spaces included in your booking and their usable area. Official packages describe tables, chairs, a dance floor, catering space, lighting and a castle visit. Confirm a projector, screen, cold room, sound system, heating, internet connection and additional furniture for your event. The historic monument requires careful use: agree decorations, fixings, candles and children’s supervision rather than assuming permission.
Catering, ceremony and the following day
Outside caterers may be selected freely according to the event profiles reviewed, without an extra venue-hire charge for that choice. A catering area is provided, and recommended contacts are available without an advertised exclusive arrangement. Menus, dietary requirements, drinks, cake, staff, crockery and linen belong in the catering quotation; no per-person wedding meal price is established here. An event profile advertises guests’ own drinks and no corkage; confirm these terms. Couples may choose their photographer. The Cour d’Honneur can host a symbolic ceremony; an on-site legal civil marriage service is not established. The next day, brunch can take place in a courtyard or indoors, and a guided historical castle visit with an audio route is offered to guests.
Staying in the castle and hamlet
The wedding presentation lists 20 beds: four in the Lice room and Castle Tower, plus sixteen in hamlet houses spread across ten bedrooms. The named houses are Maison du Notable, Maison du Chanoine and Maison Extramuros; the detailed page also says ‘two holiday cottages’ despite listing these three names. Confirm the contractual allocation and bathrooms. Nearby accommodation is suggested separately and its beds are not part of the estate’s capacity. Published official prices, without a rate year or VAT detail, are EUR 200 for the first night in the Lice, EUR 240 in the Tower, EUR 380 at the Notable, EUR 280 at the Chanoine and EUR 300 at Extramuros; additional nights are respectively EUR 100, 100, 140, 100 and 110. Confirm the rental unit, linen, cleaning, breakfast, tourist tax and minimum stay. Some bookings through the holiday-cottage network are offered for stays of at least four days.
Access, parking and accessibility
The official address is Château de Dio, Lieu-dit Dio, 34650 Dio-et-Valquières, France. The venue estimates about 55 minutes from central Montpellier and 40 from central Béziers, depending on traffic. Its published GPS point identifies the castle rather than the village centre. An event profile describes parking along the access lane, about 100 on-site spaces and 60 nearby; confirm these arrangements and any shuttle service for your guest count. Directories advertise disabled access without a full account of slopes, cobbles, thresholds or toilets. Check the exact route and bedroom access before committing. Arrange supplier and coach access, night lighting and transport after the party with the team.
Packages, prices and booking
The official page displays wedding packages from EUR 1,200 to EUR 5,900, without a rate year or VAT detail. Depending on the package, it describes courtyards, Stables, cellars, accommodation, lighting, a visit and possible exclusive use, from Friday setup to Sunday or on weekdays. A reduction for smaller groups is advertised; event schedules mention 10% for up to 60 guests and 25% on weekdays, subject to confirmation and without automatically combining them. One presentation lists a 50% booking payment with the balance due a month before the event. Obtain a dated quotation defining spaces, duration, beds, supplements, damage deposit and cancellation terms. An event profile’s advertised lack of a finishing-time limit does not remove noise rules: agree music, access, delivery and clearance hours in writing.
