Château de Freÿr in Hastière offers its Barn and Orangeries for events, dinners and celebrations. Managed by a non-profit association, this family estate combines Mosan Renaissance architecture, formal gardens, pools and potted orange trees facing the cliffs of the River Meuse. A wedding proposal must specify the spaces actually booked: a tourist visit or photography session does not provide exclusive use of the château or its historic salons.

The Barn: 240 m² and 100 seated guests

The Barn is advertised as 240 m², including a catering room and toilets. Its official capacities are 100 for a seated dinner at round tables, 150 theatre-style or 30 in a U-shaped layout. It is hired unfurnished on request throughout the year. Agree furniture, dance-floor space, catering facilities, deliveries and circulation for your reception. No separate standing-reception capacity is published, so the theatre figure should not be used as a cocktail capacity.

Two seasonal Orangeries

The website describes two Orangeries of 60 m² each, with access to toilets, hired unfurnished between mid-May and the end of October. Under that heading it lists 60 seated dinner guests at round tables, 120 theatre-style and 25 in a U-shaped layout, without clarifying whether these limits apply to one Orangery or a combined arrangement. They are therefore neither multiplied nor added to the Barn capacity. Request the approved floor plan for your chosen space, dinner, ceremony and wet-weather alternative.

Catering, ceremonies and planning

A catering room is documented in the Barn; the official pages reviewed do not publish wedding menus, minimum meal numbers, dietary packages, drinks packages or corkage terms. Whether suppliers are freely chosen or required remains to be confirmed. Ask about kitchen equipment, electrical supply, service, tableware, deliveries, cleaning and waste. Symbolic ceremonies, garden photography and any use of the chapel or historic salons require separate permission; a legally recognised civil ceremony or exclusive use of the whole estate is not guaranteed here.

Budget: venue hire is separate from admission tickets

No public hire price was found for the Barn or Orangeries. Request a quotation in euros itemising the space, duration, season, VAT, furniture, staff, utilities, cleaning, security and extras. The château-and-garden admission prices for 2026 — €12 for an adult and €10 for certain categories or groups subject to conditions — are sightseeing tickets, not reception or meal prices. Booking deposit, security deposit, payment schedule, cancellation, postponement and any guest minimum must be agreed in the contract.

Travel, parking and accessibility

The estate is at Freyr 12, 5540 Hastière, between Dinant and Givet. The château map position is 50.2262702, 4.8890521, consistent with the heritage network’s map link and the building location. The official site lists coach, car and bicycle parking and a boat landing stage; river arrivals need logistical agreement. The château ground floor and lower garden have more manageable access, while stairs to the upper floor and upper garden, grass and slopes create limitations. Check the actual route to the hired room and toilets instead of assuming the entire estate is accessible.

Hours, accommodation and the planning visit

Sightseeing opening hours are not wedding-party hours. Obtain written setup, reception and clearing times, noise rules, permission for dancing and heritage restrictions. The website prohibits drones and smoking on the estate; its visitor rules allow leashed dogs only in the gardens. No on-site event accommodation is advertised in the sources reviewed. Plan hotels and transfers, child safety near water, insurance and a wet-weather arrangement. The three historic photographs show the building and gardens in 2011 and 2014 and do not guarantee a current reception setup. For a useful quotation, provide the date, seated and standing guest numbers, preferred space, catering needs and accessibility requirements.
