A setting to celebrate your story
Full presentation
A living heritage château for your wedding in Charente
Château de la Mercerie expressly offers hire for weddings and private or public events. It stands at 2 rue des Frères Réthoré, 16320 Magnac-Lès-Gardes, in the former municipality of Magnac-Lavalette-Villars. The estate combines a Gothic Revival manor with a long Italian Renaissance-inspired façade, distinctive decorated rooms and wooded grounds. Its 220-metre façade, azulejo collection and rose garden are landmarks. Restoration continues with volunteers, craftspeople and a social-integration work programme: the actual hire boundaries and accessible areas must be specified for each reception.
Rooms, floor areas and layout-dependent capacities
A commercial presentation describes the large Azulejos room at 300 m² for 500 people, the Acajous gallery at 200 m² for 250 people and smaller salons of 50–60 m². A local guide advertises more than 500 seated guests across the reception spaces. These undated indications are not a guaranteed safety capacity for your seating plan. The commercially published overall figure of 701 is not adopted as an aggregate capacity: rooms and layouts are not added together. Room-by-room cocktail, standing, theatre and classroom capacities are unspecified. Ask for the reserved room, authorised capacity, evacuation plan and space taken by a dance floor or stage.
Grounds, ceremonies and space planning
The rose garden, forecourt, wooded park, planted tunnel and arcades provide outdoor settings for a commitment ceremony or cocktail reception according to the commercial presentation. The official website mentions around 700 rose bushes in more than thirty varieties. A 110 m² professional catering kitchen is described. Terraces and a children’s area also appear in the reception presentation. Exact availability, power supplies and kitchen equipment require confirmation. A dance floor is listed in one section but denied in another: no dedicated dance-floor facility is guaranteed here. Wet-weather capacity, marquee permission and setup arrangements remain to be agreed.
Catering, drinks and event support
Caterer selection, menus and dietary requirements should be discussed for your event. Traditional, regional, international, fusion and creative food, together with several dietary options, are advertised commercially, but that same presentation asks guests to agree these with the caterer: hire alone guarantees neither certification nor allergen handling. A kitchen does not establish an imposed caterer or an included meal. The official website does link to Le Resthoré restaurant at the foot of the château, by reservation, without publishing a wedding package or requiring its use. Drinks, service, quantities, guests’ own supplies and corkage are not contractually specified on the consulted pages. The reception team advertises assistance and decoration, music, photography and transport options; their scope and costs need agreement.
Hire price, advance payment and financial terms
The official website invites a personalised proposal and publishes no wedding-hire price. A commercial range of €3,000–€3,500 appears without a year, season, duration, taxes or detailed inclusions: it is a reference to reconfirm, not a firm price for your reception, a meal or accommodation. That profile also mentions a 30% advance on signing the quotation, followed by payment of the balance by cheque or bank transfer, with no extra charge related to its advertised minimum guest count. The commercial minimum of twenty guests needs confirmation. The security deposit, balance due date, children’s charges, brunch, staffing, cleaning, overtime, insurance and wedding cancellation terms are unpublished. Official terms effective from 1 July 2025 concern individual visitor tickets, not private hire: their non-refund and payment rules are therefore not applied to weddings.
Accessibility, parking and accommodation
The official website describes visitor accessibility: the main gate can be opened after notifying the shop, with reduced-mobility parking a few metres from the entrance, a lift, a wheelchair available, adapted toilets and a hearing loop at reception. Guest routes and access to every reception room still need event-specific approval. Outdoor parking is documented without a published space count or electric charging facilities. Motorhomes may stay one night before or after a visit, but without dedicated infrastructure: this is not wedding sleeping accommodation. The reception presentation states there are no guest bedrooms. Nearby accommodation, shuttles and coach access remain to be arranged. Helicopter arrival is mentioned commercially, subject to current permissions and constraints.
Timings, heritage protection and equipment to agree
A commercial end time of 05:00 is advertised, without confirming continuous music permission until then. Neighbourhood protection, sound levels, safety, child supervision and protection of the collections need to be built into the event plan. The visitor page prohibits animals in the château and park except guide and assistance dogs; reception arrangements should be checked without disregarding this general rule. Wood heating is documented in the monument’s restoration, without guaranteeing identical comfort in every hired space. Included tables, chairs, crockery, linen, sound, lighting, screen, Wi-Fi, DJ, air conditioning and cleaning are not established. Tourist opening hours for 2026 and the winter closure for visits are not wedding timings or availability.
Contact the venue directly
For a wedding quotation, use chateaudelamercerie16@gmail.com or +33 7 89 63 03 57. These details are published on the official hire and contact pages. The Facebook account linked by the château is “Chateaudelamerceriesiteofficiel1”. No other official network was found among the inspected home, contact and hire-page links; this does not prove that no account exists. State your date, guest numbers, rooms, weather contingency, catering, access requirements and timings so the contract matches the monument’s actual facilities.
