A wedding in a neoclassical château
Château de Moncley offers wedding venue hire at Route de Moncley, 25170 Moncley, in the Doubs. Overlooking the Ognon valley near Besançon, the estate combines neoclassical architecture, a formal courtyard, gardens and historic rooms. Designed from 1778 by Alexandre Bertrand, it retains a columned atrium, rotunda, decorative interiors and family portraits. Dinners, birthdays, baptisms, concerts, seminars and filming are also offered. Specify the hired areas, exclusivity and times in the contract: rooms open for visits are not automatically all included in a wedding booking.
Rooms and dining: distinct capacities
The vestibule covers 96 m² and serves as a reception area. The 104 m² rotunda seats 98 diners, using eleven tables for eight and one for ten. The 40 m² Louis XIV salon seats 24 at three tables for eight, including children, and connects with the rotunda. The 56 m² dining room seats 20 and can host cocktails in wet weather. These official capacities take precedence over older advertisements listing a 180 m² vestibule, rotunda 102 m²/100, dining room 61 m²/50 and Red Salon 41 m²/40. Connected rooms do not establish a combined capacity: approve circulation, seating, dancing and the safety plan for your attendance.
Chapel, gardens and historic kitchen
The 28 m² private chapel allows an intimate religious ceremony, subject to arrangements and availability agreed with the estate; no attendance figure is advertised for it. The courtyard and gardens provide a setting for welcome drinks and photographs, but symbolic ceremony zones and outdoor installations require explicit permission. The 68 m² neo-medieval kitchen can host brunch or a special meal. A separate 24 m² professional kitchen is provided for the caterer, with oven, warming equipment, refrigerator and dishwasher. These areas are not added to an overall dining capacity.
Food and suppliers
The château offers catering, DJ, photography, video, decoration, hair and beauty services. Its dining offer is presented around chef Tim Sullivan, local produce and the kitchen garden and orchard. Published examples include beef Wellington, scallops, duck, Comté preparations and chocolate or raspberry desserts: these are examples rather than a compulsory wedding menu or guaranteed availability. Meals in the dining room or historic kitchen, cocktail receptions and seated dining are arranged with the team. An advertised menu service for up to 300 concerns catering and does not establish that 300 guests can dine in the historic salons. Confirm caterer choice, children’s meals, dietary needs, allergens, drinks, staff and any corkage.
Five rooms including the bridal suite
The renovated north wing, La Thébaïde, has four bedrooms and a suite, each advertised for two people. The 54 m² Pigeonnier or bridal suite has a Queen Size bed, separate sitting room and bathtub. Arabesques covers 28 m² with a steam shower; Rotondes 24 m² with shared shower facilities; Architecte 21 m² with a spa bath; and Sanguines 20 m² with shared shower facilities. Rooms provide Queen Size beds, robes, hairdryer, toiletries, welcome tray, Nespresso machine and safe, with a minibar or drinks selection depending on the room. Common areas include an 18 m² Australian lounge and a dining room extending onto a shaded terrace.
Stays and booked meals
Breakfast is included in the room offer. Lunch or dinner during a stay can be arranged by booking and paying in advance by telephone. Room prices, extra beds, check-in/check-out times and pet rules are not confirmed in the consulted pages. A spa bath or steam shower in a bedroom does not constitute a communal wellness centre. Ask whether all five rooms are reserved for your wedding and whether their hire is included or separate: ten advertised places do not guarantee accommodation for the entire reception.
Budget and contractual inclusions
A published hire offer displays an indicative starting price of €5,800, without a clearly specified year or duration, followed by a quotation from the establishment. It mentions room cleaning, insurance, tables, chairs and heating. Confirm these items in your current quotation, alongside areas, furniture, kitchen, linen, tableware, accommodation, food, taxes, staff and options. This hire reference is neither a per-person meal price nor a room package. No advance payment, deposit, children’s charge or priced cancellation term is invented. Older information differs on areas and capacities: current contracts and plans take precedence.
Accessibility, access and precautions
Private parking is advertised, without a confirmed current number of spaces. An accessibility contribution dated 21 June 2023 lists on-site parking, an approach at least 90 cm wide and a visible entrance; it does not confirm wheelchair access to every room, bedroom or toilet. The historic property is visited across several levels: request routes, steps and adapted arrangements for each booked space. According to its website, the château is approximately 17 km from central Besançon and 8 km from Franche-Comté TGV station. Arrange the last stage of the journey and guests’ return travel; music times, pool safety, children, decoration and outdoor installations require agreement.
Arrange a reception visit
The château currently publishes +33 6 59 49 74 71. The business address contact@chateaudemoncley.fr is published for this same establishment by the Ognon valley regional presentation; older numbers do not replace the current contact. Provide your date, separate dining and cocktail attendance, rooms, ceremony, accommodation and requested services. The official contact form allows wedding, stay or event enquiries; simply viewing it creates no booking commitment. Facebook and Instagram links are those displayed by the château.
