A wedding in a lived-in wine-estate residence

In Rully, Saône-et-Loire, this family fortress overlooks the Côte chalonnaise vineyards, around 15 km from Chalon-sur-Saône and 20 km south of Beaune. The castle explicitly offers its spaces for wedding hire, with a bilingual team. It remains a private residence: hiring reception spaces does not automatically include all private apartments or a hotel within the castle. The keep dates from the 12th century; the outbuildings and altered residential wings reflect different periods of its history.

La Cuverie and the other rooms: choosing a layout

La Cuverie, in the outbuildings, was renovated in 2017. The official seminar page gives 175 m² in two volumes, with a raised section and a lower section below steps. It advertises seated dinners for 100–140 depending on layout and cocktails for 250. The wedding page confirms 140 seated and 250 standing for the ground-floor reception. External presentations use 170 m² and different capacities: this listing retains the official offer of 140 seated, subject to an approved plan allowing for dining, dancing and circulation.

Room-by-room reference figures

The table reproduces business-event layouts on the official website, without adding them or treating them as a combined wedding capacity. The Salon italien, a former 19th-century dining room with mosaic flooring and two large windows, measures 50 m². The Cuisine médiévale, on the ground floor of the 12th-century keep, measures 80 m². Its name denotes a historic reception space; it does not establish an equipped professional catering kitchen. Access to these rooms and their wedding use must be included in the contract.

Room Area U-shape Theatre Dinner / table Cocktail
Salon italien 50 m² 14 35 16 (oval table) —
Cuisine médiévale 80 m² — — 20–35 —
La Cuverie 175 m² 20 50 100–140 250

Terrace, park and ceremony

The south-east-facing terrace overlooks the vineyard and has shade. The 10-hectare park is advertised as fully enclosed and available for private reception hire; the website states that this park has no bodies of water. A symbolic ceremony can take place on the terrace or in the park, with additional tents possible on agreed terms. An adjoining children’s space is provided, without advertised included childcare. Photographs in the castle salons are possible by agreement. The village church is stated to be 500 m away, reached on foot through the park.

Wet-weather arrangements and reserved areas

The castle advertises an alternative when the drinks reception cannot take place outdoors. Ask which room will be reserved, its capacity, changeover deadlines and necessary equipment. A cocktail capacity alone does not guarantee dinner and dancing in the same layout. One presentation describes total exclusive hire; the official website explicitly offers a private park. Specify rooms, terraces, courtyards, timings and occupied private areas excluded from the booking.

Catering, meals and drinks

Caterers can be chosen freely, and venue-only hire is possible. Partners may be recommended without being compulsory. Bringing your own drinks without corkage is advertised. The reception information mentions vegetarian and gluten-free options, menu changes and bringing a cake without a surcharge; agree these arrangements with the chosen caterer. They are neither an included menu nor a guarantee covering every allergen. Drinks may be part of a menu or charged by consumption depending on the supplier. No meal, children’s meal or brunch price is confirmed.

Equipment and technical organisation

A dance floor and catering workspace are listed, but kitchen-equipment information is inconsistent. Check refrigeration, cooking, electrical capacity, water, deliveries and waste with the supplier; do not treat the Cuisine médiévale as an equipped catering facility. Quantities and availability of tables, chairs, tableware, linen, lighting, sound, screens, Wi-Fi, heating and air conditioning are not established by the current official offer. Specify their provision and inclusion. The team receives guests in French and English; coordination, childcare, security, shuttles and cleaning are not assumed to be included.

Hire prices: a dated quotation is essential

Public reference prices checked on 17 October 2026 do not form a consistent tariff: hire from €2,000 and a €2,000–€5,500 range, a separate €3,600 answer, room-only hire from €2,500 excluding outdoor spaces and furniture, a separate table from €5,000, and another room offer at €4,000 including tax. Duration, seasons, applicable years, inclusions and tax treatment are not stated consistently. None is presented here as a guaranteed current price, a per-person rate or a weekend package. Request an itemised quotation specifying the date, rooms, park, furniture, installations, cleaning and suppliers. Old admission, tasting and corporate-meal prices in the 2011–2015 brochures are not wedding prices.

Booking, music and conditions

One reception answer states that a booking deposit is required, with the balance one month before the event, without an amount or percentage. Confirm the damage deposit, insurance, cancellation, postponement, taxes, hire payment methods and overtime in writing. Reception information gives an event finish of 4 am; confirm the date, indoor and outdoor music, and dismantling. Early-week setup is mentioned without a guaranteed slot. No compulsory photographer, music supplier or caterer is advertised. Minimum guest figures differ between public presentations: do not infer a contractual minimum of 40 or 70 people.

Accommodation and individual access needs

The reception information consulted offers no on-site accommodation. The village has guesthouses, holiday lets and two hotels, with a total of 80 beds advertised in the nearby accommodation offer; availability is separate from venue hire. There are more options within 5 km. Wheelchair-access statements conflict, and La Cuverie has levels separated by steps. Check drop-off, step-free routes, toilets, dining room, dance floor and outdoor areas individually. Full accessibility is not guaranteed here.

Address and contacting the venue

The castle is at 2 hameau du Château, 71150 Rully, France. The map marks the building at 46.869167, 4.735278; the official website’s approach coordinates refer to a point to the south-west, distinct from the building marker. On-site and nearby parking are advertised with two mentions of 200 spaces; this does not establish 400 reserved or free spaces. Another presentation places free parking within 1 km. Confirm parking, coach access and walking routes. For a visit and quotation: Raoul de Ternay, raoul@chateauderully.com, +33 3 85 87 20 89, official website chateauderully.com.

Visits and activities separate from a wedding

Guided group visits are offered all year by appointment. Summer 2026 tourist hours and admission prices concern visiting the castle, not private hire or party timings. Tastings, French- or English-language tours, orienteering and children’s costume loans belong to the cultural offer and are not automatically included in a wedding. Castle tastings are advertised for groups of at least 12, with a smaller-group package possible on request. Wine production and individual tastings in Mercurey require separate arrangements.

How are reviews verified?
  1. An account with a verified email address

The author posts from their wedding account using a confirmed email address. Their email address and contact details are never displayed in the review.

  2. A collaboration confirmed before the event

The client and the professional must have confirmed their collaboration on VENUIVO before the event date. Simply adding a favourite or requesting a quote is not enough.

  3. A review after the event

A review can only be published after the scheduled date for a confirmed collaboration that has not been cancelled. Only one review may be published per collaboration.

  4. The same rules for all reviews

Positive and negative reviews are assessed using the same criteria. Abusive or promotional content and content containing private contact details are rejected. Reviews can be reported, and the professional can respond.

These checks make reviews more reliable. They confirm the collaboration process on VENUIVO; the assessment remains the author’s own.
