A château wedding in the Ardennes
Château de Thugny hosts weddings in Thugny-Trugny, near Rethel. Its website offers hire of the château, park and orangery for receptions in a historic setting. The château, park and tithe barn have been listed as historic monuments since 12 June 1946. The precise private-hire area and included spaces depend on the contract: having a park does not mean that every area is accessible or equipped for every reception.
Salons, orangery and capacities
The official hire includes four interconnected salons, the park and the caterer’s preparation area. The orangery can be booked separately or as an addition. The presentation updated in September 2026 advertises 80 seated places in the Salon Jaune, 60 in the Salon Voûté, 70 seated in the Salon Boisé and 250 seated in the Orangery. These capacities apply to individual spaces and must not be added together. Request a layout showing tables, dancing and circulation; the commercial maximum of 400 guests is not a validated single-dinner capacity.
Older descriptions publish different room areas and names. A 2017 brochure described 300 m² on the ground floor and a maximum capacity of 280 people: these historical figures do not necessarily describe the current offer. Confirm areas, access to each salon and possibilities for joining rooms before choosing a layout.
Park, ceremony and wet-weather arrangements
The official website states that the park covers 40 hectares, where tents, buffets and tables may be considered. The garden can host drinks or a ceremony according to the agreed project. Outdoor arrangements require agreement on ground conditions, connections, toilets, times and safety. Explicitly book a covered alternative and its capacity in case of rain; the orangery is not automatically included in every package.
Catering and drinks
You may choose your own caterer, and no corkage fee is advertised. Use of a catering preparation area is included in the hire, without proof of complete professional equipment. Agree equipment, chilled storage, delivery access, tableware, staffing and cleaning with your supplier. Menus, dietary needs and allergens are the responsibility of the chosen caterer; no food certification is established. Published information states that you may bring your own wedding cake without a surcharge, subject to confirmation in the quotation. No meal or drinks package is assumed to be included in venue hire.
Accommodation and equipment
On-site accommodation is offered exclusively for weddings, for the couple and their guests. Sources disagree on current bedroom numbers: request a room list and actual sleeping capacity, bathrooms, nightly rates, breakfast and access times. Tables, linen and accessories can be hired; check quantities, condition, setup and charges. Sound, evening lighting, heating, Internet access and entertainment services are not assumed to be included.
Budget, duration and terms
The current website invites enquiries for the 2027 brochure and a quotation. Advertised hire runs from Friday for setup until Monday for dismantling. Public price guides differ and do not establish a guaranteed current tariff. A brochure dated 2017 listed €2,650 including tax for rooms and park over a weekend, excluding catering: this is historical and must not be used as a 2026 or 2027 budget. Request separate prices for the orangery, bedrooms, furniture, meals, drinks, cleaning, technical equipment and any overtime. Obtain deposit, security bond, cancellation, postponement and insurance terms in writing.

The official address is 9 rue du Château, 08300 Thugny-Trugny; entrance is via the Grande Allée. Rethel is nearby and the venue advertises approximately thirty minutes from Reims, depending on traffic. Parking is advertised, without confirmed contractual capacity. Consulted profiles do not describe the venue as step-free accessible: personally check steps, routes and toilets for your guests’ needs.
