Private visits and productions at an island fortress

Off the coast of Marseille, Château d’If welcomes film and photography projects within a historic monument surrounded by the sea. The Centre des monuments nationaux also offers private visits outside public opening hours. Its 2026 sales guide allows for a breakfast or an aperitif, arranged with the catering partner. The fortress, terraces and outdoor areas provide separate settings, with their use approved individually for each project.

Spaces and capacities for filming

The official filming offer describes a 1,547-square-metre castle with a maximum of 100 standing people throughout the building. The terraces cover 600 square metres, with a published capacity of 100 standing people. The parade ground covers 1,700 square metres and is listed for 500 standing people. These figures belong to the filming offer and do not constitute guaranteed meal or reception capacities. They are not added together; use of the smaller rooms, outdoor areas and crew movements must be agreed with the monument.

Exclusive visits, dates and budget

The private visit is advertised as a two-hour experience in French, priced at €300 excluding tax for each group bracket of 1–30 people, excluding a guide. The CMN’s 2026 guide calls for booking at least one month ahead, from April to September, in the morning or evening outside public opening. This package concerns the private visit: it does not include filming, a meal or the boat crossing. Filming and photography hire is offered throughout the year, subject to approval, with a quotation tailored to the project.

Catering and arrangements

Les Grandes Tables is the partner identified by the CMN for adding breakfast or an aperitif: chateau-if@lesgrandestables.com. Its published menu features local, homemade cooking, including salads at €15–16, stuffed vegetables or risotto at €17, salt-cod brandade at €16 and Frioul sea bass at €25. This page still displays opening times dated 2025, so prices, seasonal availability and a group proposal must be reconfirmed. Catering, drinks, dietary needs, allergens and technical requirements should be settled before committing. As the ordinary visitor rules prohibit alcohol, the exact aperitif arrangement must be agreed with the CMN and the restaurateur.

Sea access and heritage

The fortress forms part of the Frioul archipelago landscape, within the Calanques National Park. Its towers, ramparts and former cells are associated with its prison history and the novel The Count of Monte Cristo. This heritage provides the setting for a cultural visit or production, subject to the monument’s rules and the areas approved for use.

The venue is on Île d’If, 13007 Marseille. Boats depart from the Vieux-Port; the crossing is paid for separately and depends on the weather. The castle closes in adverse conditions. Numerous stairs and uneven ground prevent access suitable for people with reduced mobility; the team can advise on aids for visiting. The booking email published by the CMN in 2026 is resa-if@monuments-nationaux.fr, with reception on +33 4 91 59 02 30. Availability, schedules, security, equipment transport and cancellation terms should be included in the agreement prepared for the event.

How are reviews verified?
  1. An account with a verified email address

The author posts from their wedding account using a confirmed email address. Their email address and contact details are never displayed in the review.

  2. A collaboration confirmed before the event

The client and the professional must have confirmed their collaboration on VENUIVO before the event date. Simply adding a favourite or requesting a quote is not enough.

  3. A review after the event

A review can only be published after the scheduled date for a confirmed collaboration that has not been cancelled. Only one review may be published per collaboration.

  4. The same rules for all reviews

Positive and negative reviews are assessed using the same criteria. Abusive or promotional content and content containing private contact details are rejected. Reviews can be reported, and the professional can respond.

These checks make reviews more reliable. They confirm the collaboration process on VENUIVO; the assessment remains the author’s own.
