Wedding and reception at Château d’Oron

In Oron-le-Châtel, in the canton of Vaud, Château d’Oron offers civil weddings, banquets, birthdays, meetings, seminars, training sessions and concerts within a historic monument built in the late twelfth century. The Association pour la Conservation du Château d’Oron, owner since 1936, preserves its historic apartments, furniture and a library of nearly 18,000 books. A reception may combine a room and the courtyards under the agreed contract; historic collections are not automatically available for private hire. The secretariat receives enquiries and arranges room visits by appointment, including weekends.

Each room and its capacity

The official list distinguishes these layouts, without published floor areas in square metres: outdoor courtyard up to 300 for a drinks reception; covered inner courtyard approximately 200 for a drinks reception; Salle de Justice 170 seated with a large fireplace; Salle des Gardes 60 seated with a large fireplace; Salle des Voûtes 50 seated with a bar; Salle des Oron 40 seated for a seminar or 100 for a conference; La Chapelle, without a fireplace and adjoining Justice, up to fifty people. The civil-wedding room accommodates up to one hundred. Capacities are not cumulative, and one hundred conference seats do not guarantee one hundred dining covers in that room. Agree a table plan allowing for service, dancing and equipment.

Commercial descriptions give the Chapelle forty people and the Voûtes eighty for cocktails: these layouts differ from the official seated limits. Another grid shows four hundred for every layout in a single overall row with no floor area; this is not adopted as a verified capacity. Use the official limit for each space.

Two published plans dated 20 February 2007 show Justice, Chapelle, Gardes, Oron, courtyards, a kitchen, an office and a bakery on the ground floor; the lower floor shows Voûtes and a bar. They help explain circulation without guaranteeing current access or included kitchen use and furniture. A covered courtyard can provide a drinks-reception backup; it is not automatically an alternative for every outdoor ceremony. Garden, terrace, arch, decoration, installation and the precise wet-weather plan require agreement.

Civil wedding: distinguish fees and availability

The château is approved as a special venue for civil weddings. Its page offers a personalised ceremony of approximately ninety minutes, with music, readings and contributions agreed with the officiant. The canton of Vaud currently gives an average duration of one hour and ceremonies Thursday to Saturday from 2 to 4 pm, subject to availability. This current authority rule takes priority over the château page advertising every day except Sundays and public holidays: confirm the slot with the civil registry, which alone can approve the ceremony. The required formalities and, depending on circumstances, permissions or document authentication are not replaced by a room booking.

Two separate amounts are published: CHF 1,500 for the civil registry’s preparatory procedure and ceremony; CHF 1,000 charged by the château for the wedding room including heating. The former is the canton’s currently displayed amount; the château does not specify the hire tariff’s validity year. Reconfirm for your date. Foreign-document authentication or additional services may involve further charges. The venue advertises a ten-percent reduction on the most expensive room when the drinks reception or banquet also takes place there; clarify the rooms and calculation in your quote. No single all-inclusive wedding package price is established.

Confetti, rice and natural or artificial flower petals are prohibited; soap bubbles are allowed. Other room rates, evening times, noise limits, overtime, installation access, cleaning, security deposit, booking payments, cancellation, postponement and insurance are not publicly priced. Amounts are in Swiss francs, not euros.

Caterers, drinks and equipment

The current official page lists four approved caterers: Events et Saveurs, Héritier Traiteur SA, La Chenille Gourmande Sàrl and La Rouvraie. The 2025 bulletin lists D&K événement instead of the latter; ask for the approved list valid for your reception. Commercially advertised caterer choice does not mean every outside supplier is accepted without agreement. Menus, drinks, corkage, outside cakes, allergies, diets, children’s and suppliers’ meals, brunch, staff and service duration must be agreed with your chosen caterer. Room hire alone guarantees no standard menu or gastronomic price.

A partner commercially offers standing dinners and live-cooking-style services, with examples involving salmon, foie gras, scallops and duck; these are suggestions to negotiate, with no automatic inclusion. Fireplaces, a bar and kitchen plans are documented. Wi-Fi, sound, lighting, screens, projector, DJ, furniture, tableware, linens, heating in other rooms and air conditioning are not itemised as included equipment. Dancing is commercially advertised; hours and installations require agreement.

Clos du Château d’Oron grows white Solaris and red Divico on an 835 m² vineyard. The official bottle price is CHF 27, validity year unspecified; the 2025 bulletin mentions CHF 144 for six, a historical rate to reconfirm without assuming a current discount. Secretariat wine sales do not establish an event drinks package.

Accommodation, children and visits

No on-site accommodation is commercially advertised; rooms, beds and overnight rates are not established. Arrange hotels and transfers separately. The children’s birthday offer, distinct from a wedding, allows up to ten friends on Wednesday afternoons for crafts, costume hire, photographs and cake; the 2026 programme confirms advance booking, without a published price or minimum age.

The practical page now schedules public visits from 28 March to 26 September 2027, Saturdays 2–5 pm and Sundays 2–6 pm, with ordinary autumn/winter closure; this does not cancel room visits by appointment. Displayed admission: adult CHF 10; pensioner/student CHF 8; age six to sixteen CHF 5; under-sixes free; two-adult family with one to five children CHF 25. The displayed group wording is CHF 10 per person up to nineteen, then CHF 5 per additional person; confirm its interpretation when booking. Guided visits, maximum twenty-five per group, cost an additional CHF 50. The 2025 bulletin advertises banquet-participant admission at CHF 5, a separate historical rate to reconfirm. Admissions are not a children’s menu or reception hire fee.

The cultural programme is separate from private hire. For 2026, candlelit visits are advertised on 26 and 27 December and 2 and 3 January 2027, CHF 15 each with advance booking, twenty participants maximum and unheated apartments. Murder-mystery performances display CHF 119 or CHF 115 for reduction categories; they are not automatically included wedding entertainment. The 4–6 December 2026 Christmas market has free admission, with apartment visits CHF 5 from sixteen. The agenda and 2026 leaflet differ on the 9 December storytelling session: CHF 15 versus castle admission and a voluntary contribution; confirm the current offer.

How are reviews verified?
  1. An account with a verified email address

The author posts from their wedding account using a confirmed email address. Their email address and contact details are never displayed in the review.

  2. A collaboration confirmed before the event

The client and the professional must have confirmed their collaboration on VENUIVO before the event date. Simply adding a favourite or requesting a quote is not enough.

  3. A review after the event

A review can only be published after the scheduled date for a confirmed collaboration that has not been cancelled. Only one review may be published per collaboration.

  4. The same rules for all reviews

Positive and negative reviews are assessed using the same criteria. Abusive or promotional content and content containing private contact details are rejected. Reviews can be reported, and the professional can respond.

These checks make reviews more reliable. They confirm the collaboration process on VENUIVO; the assessment remains the author’s own.
