A setting to celebrate your story
Full presentation
Jean et Pons Dedieu Hall is a municipal venue in Arles’ historic centre, at 62 Rue du 4 Septembre. It occupies the former Grande Boucherie, a heritage building now used for the city’s cultural and community activities. Its address provides an established setting in the old town for a local meeting or public gathering.
Built in 1724 to plans by Antoine II Guibert, the former market hall has three large round-arched openings. Sculpture by Pons Dedieu includes ox and ram heads, cornucopias and tools recalling its original use as a meat market. Its position at the corner of Rue du Quatre-Septembre and Rue Réattu provides a distinctive architectural landmark that can be clearly described on an invitation.
Recent announcements from the city confirm that the hall hosts conferences, debates and events organised by associations. It is used for public discussions of social and environmental issues, and has also hosted exhibitions and local cultural activities. These verified uses make the venue relevant to meetings, discussions and presentations, subject to the municipality’s approval.
Organisers should contact the city’s services to check available dates, the permitted number of participants, the proposed layout and available equipment. Charges and the conditions for using the hall must be confirmed for the project. The listed contact belongs to the municipal events service, which can direct an enquiry to the relevant team.
The building has served several purposes: a municipal wholesale trading facility, Le Studio cinema from the interwar period until around 1970, and subsequently a meeting and conference hall. This history explains its heritage character while confirming its present-day municipal use. Recent meetings listed by the city include discussions of climate justice, identity and wider social issues.
For a conference or community meeting, a useful enquiry should include expected attendance, the proposed schedule, projection or sound requirements and the time needed for installation. These are points to discuss with the team; the presence of particular equipment should not be assumed. A public event advertised with free admission does not establish free use of the hall for every organiser. The terms applicable to your own project must be confirmed by the city.
