A castle wedding above Lake Baldegg

Schloss Heidegg in Gelfingen, in the Lucerne Seetal region of Switzerland, combines a historic tower, chapel, castle garden and views across vineyards towards Lake Baldegg. The Vereinigung Pro Heidegg offers ceremonies, drinks receptions and banquets, followed by dancing, dessert and a bar. Dinner in the Festsaal followed by a party in the castle cellar is one possible arrangement. Book rooms around your agreed itinerary. Exclusive use of the whole property is not automatic: without it, two events may take place simultaneously. Discuss visitor activity and your reserved areas during a viewing.

Rooms and capacities for different layouts

The official wedding page describes banquets for 20 to 70 people in the Festsaal or castle cellar. The Festsaal is on the tower’s fourth floor, with historic stucco, ceiling paintings and parquet. Published plans illustrate different table arrangements: dimensions of 14.1 × 6.4 metres are marked for the Festsaal and 9.7 × 8.6 metres for the cellar, including illustrated ancillary areas. These are not converted into an exact usable banqueting area. For drinks receptions, the garden with cellar and the terrace with hall/café are each advertised for up to 180 people. Agreed indoor rooms provide a wet-weather option. Capacities and spaces cannot be added together. Confirm seating, dancing, buffet placement and service routes for your event.

Civil, religious and symbolic ceremonies

The chapel is described for Christian ceremonies with up to 60 guests, the Festsaal for ceremonies with up to 90, and the Kleiner Saal for up to 20. Legally recognised civil ceremonies require appointments through the Hochdorf regional civil registry office; enquiring with the castle does not replace registration. For a Catholic ceremony the information sheet asks couples to contact their home parish at least two months ahead. Symbolic ceremonies can be arranged in the Festsaal, cellar or outdoors in reliable weather. The castle garden contains roses, perennial planting, a fountain and a pavilion. Confirm the setting, decorations, sound and weather alternative.

Two exclusive caterers and your own wedding cake

Larger events, generally from 20 people, must use Kupferkessel GmbH or Bitzi-Metzg AG for catering. Order food directly from your chosen partner and drinks from the castle. The official page confirms vegetarian and vegan choices; agree allergens and ingredients with the caterer. A modern kitchen beside the lift tower supports banquet service. Linked sample menus include Bitzi options at CHF 34, 47 and 68 and seasonal Kupferkessel menus at CHF 79 or 89 per person. These are published sample menu prices rather than complete wedding packages; staffing, place settings, room hire and drinks may be additional. Guest-supplied desserts and wedding cakes are an exception permitted without a surcharge, provided the cold chain is maintained. Other food comes from the caterer.

Room hire and additional services

The room tariff still linked by the venue is effective from April 2024 and includes VAT. Banquet hire of the Festsaal costs CHF 500 for up to four hours or CHF 600 for longer; the cellar costs CHF 480 or 530 and the Kleiner Saal CHF 280 or 330. The smaller room costs CHF 160 as an additional space. Drinks reception hire for up to three hours is CHF 450 for the garden/cellar or CHF 420 for the terrace or hall with gallery. The list gives CHF 400 for a chapel wedding, civil ceremony in the Festsaal or symbolic ceremony, and CHF 350 for a civil ceremony in the smaller room. The information sheet effective August 2025 lists place settings with china, cutlery, glasses and white linen at CHF 10 per person, service staff at CHF 60 per person per hour and a projector at CHF 50. Screen and projector table are free; the Steinway piano is CHF 100 for a banquet. Check the current quotation, duration, staffing and combined services rather than treating examples as a final total.

Drinks, corkage and short reception packages

The drinks and bar lists are dated May 2026 and include VAT, subject to availability and changes. Regional wines and Heidegg specialities are offered; Riesling-Sylvaner is one example at CHF 32 per 70-cl bottle. Corkage for guest-supplied wine is CHF 25 per 75-cl bottle, bottled beer CHF 4 per 33 cl and draught beer CHF 12 per litre. Bar Light and Bar Royal have a listed base hire of CHF 100, with drinks and any staffing charged separately. A separate short drinks reception of up to one hour costs CHF 17 to 21 per person depending on wine, including room, service, drinks and tax; weddings are charged for at least 20 people. An extra half hour costs CHF 6 per person. These short packages differ from a longer wedding reception with a buffet.

Accommodation and accessible routes

The baroque residential building contains a year-round 112 m² holiday apartment for six people, with two bedrooms, a kitchen, sitting room and two bathrooms. It has Wi-Fi, no television and an included parking space; obtain the nightly price separately through the linked booking service. The apartment is reached by 15 or 18 steps. Step-free paths cross the grounds but have gravel surfaces. The chapel entrance is level. The tower lift has a 66-cm door opening and requires staff assistance; the toilet by the Festsaal is adapted. For the cellar, arrange wedge ramps in advance; one toilet is wheelchair accessible. Confirm dimensions, assistance and the actual route for your guests before booking.

Transport, parking and quiet hours

The address is Heidegg 3, 6284 Gelfingen. Allow about 20 minutes on foot from Gelfingen S9 station along the marked path; the castle states there is no bus connection. Around 40 free spaces are available at the lower car park by the vineyard and about 50 paid spaces at the upper entrance to the avenue. The information sheet lists CHF 1 per hour or CHF 5 for the day until 2 am. General vehicle access along the avenue is prohibited; guests with mobility needs may be dropped off by arrangement. Quiet hours run from 10 pm to 6 am outdoors and along parking routes. Close windows when dancing starts. After midnight, events can extend to no later than 2 am at CHF 100 per hour, charged in started quarter-hours; everyone must leave by 2.30 am. Smoking indoors and fireworks or sky lanterns on castle grounds are prohibited.

Booking and payment terms

Contact info@heidegg.ch or +41 41 917 13 25 with your date, ceremony plans, guest numbers for each part and preferred itinerary. A provisional room reservation is followed by a viewing. Under the linked terms effective October 2022, the contract becomes binding through timely signed confirmation and receipt of the specified advance payment. Organisational details are due 14 days ahead and final guest numbers seven days ahead. The stated cancellation charges are the advance payment until 60 days before, all room hire with that minimum at 59 to 15 days, 60% of lost invoiced revenue at 14 to three days, and 80% at two to zero days. Final payment is due within two weeks; the castle and caterer invoice separately. Confirm the applicable contract and supplier terms. The photographs from 2006, 2010 and 2011 are dated views of the actual exteriors; the garden in particular may now be arranged differently.

How are reviews verified?
  1. An account with a verified email address

The author posts from their wedding account using a confirmed email address. Their email address and contact details are never displayed in the review.

  2. A collaboration confirmed before the event

The client and the professional must have confirmed their collaboration on VENUIVO before the event date. Simply adding a favourite or requesting a quote is not enough.

  3. A review after the event

A review can only be published after the scheduled date for a confirmed collaboration that has not been cancelled. Only one review may be published per collaboration.

  4. The same rules for all reviews

Positive and negative reviews are assessed using the same criteria. Abusive or promotional content and content containing private contact details are rejected. Reviews can be reported, and the professional can respond.

These checks make reviews more reliable. They confirm the collaboration process on VENUIVO; the assessment remains the author’s own.
